I'm beginning to think about a new machine. Firefox crashes at
least 6 times a day. I need more tabs.

I'm having serious problems with Firefox, too, version 17.01. It boots up
VERY slowly. Earlier versions used to launch immediately, and now at times
it takes a couple of minutes to start. My computer is maxed out in RAM and
is very fast, fully up to date in all applications and engines and drivers,
and scans clean as a whistle in disk and OS, yet both Live Mail and Firefox
take forever to launch. I hate to abandon Firefox, as it's been perfect for
me for years now. Friends are using Chrome and like it. My drives are
defragmented and when thoroughly scanned are declared healthy and fit. I
don't know what's going on. My hunch is the Mozilla community is very
quietly working on a different engine, as this one now is proving too
cluttered up to actually work smoothly. I read rumors that they are unhappy
with the performance of Firefox lately.

I wonder whyit crashes.
Never, ever crashes here.

Don't know from tabs.
But I'm completely devoted to the Mozilla pair for years.
Version 17.0.1 now.

Version 17.0.1 now.
I tend to accumulate lots of open tabs. And then the system tells
me I'm using all my ram. And then it crashes. And then the restart
option comes up, and I restart. And then session manager comes
up and I restore the previous session. And close some tabs.

That's taboo.

The most tabs I've ever opened numbered about 15. Mac used to give you the
option of assigning more RAM to specific applications. Never seen that on a
PC. I've maxed out my RAM at 8gb and have never seen the meter go more than
half way to the limit. My guru suggested I use:

http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/gr/memtest86.htm

It's a slick and professional RAM testing application. Download an ISO,
burn it to a CD, and run the test off the disk. Even I was able to do this.
Amazing. Not that this is applicable to the present situation.
